We are not...Brother Sky, We are not thinking ahead. We are not thinking outside the box. I love the UMC but we are twenty years ahead at being behind. At times I think we take an easy way out to itinerate or the congregation takes the easy way out asking ofr a move. Change is hard and in serving the people we need to help them live into it.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11537127337051252458noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17196593.post-11447708488691255062010-03-24T17:11:25.762-05:002010-03-24T17:11:25.762-05:00Very thoughtful observations.Very thoughtful observations.John Meunierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15640046073453219165noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17196593.post-81486777626419077992010-03-16T14:52:49.885-05:002010-03-16T14:52:49.885-05:00No one is thinking ahead. In general, we are too &...No one is thinking ahead. In general, we are too "reactive" and not enough "proactive".

For example, the issue of parsonage vs. home ownership should never have been allowed on the table; now it's an albatross around our necks. Who saw that coming? I did, didn't you?

Let a few churches get away without paying apportionments and -SURPRISE!- now everyone wants to be exempt. Who saw that coming? (Am I the only one?)

Instead of grooming our newbies to step into leadership (in part because our large churches are ditching associate pastors as fast as they can), they are sent to a 3-point charge in Monkey's Eyebrow, where they develop lazy habits, become cynical and -frequently- leave the conference, if not the ministry altogether.

I'm not the sharpest crayon in the Memphis Conference box of 48, but I've seen these problems coming -- and I have spoken out. But the people who make those decisions are not listening. They tell me, "Just wait until you're a D.S."

That sounded like a threat!

No thanks."CAPTAIN DAVE"https://www.blogger.com/profile/06388144575284641351noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17196593.post-8603148602751605062010-03-05T17:48:35.189-06:002010-03-05T17:48:35.189-06:00Brother Sky,

I look foward to the good appointments and the less than good ones that lay in my future.

All the while cling to the hand of God for guidance and leadership.

Cheers,

AnthonyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
